What the Analyzer Measures

Four Metrics That Define Your Network Quality

Speed is irrelevant if your connection is unstable. These four metrics determine whether your network can actually support modern business applications — and which ones will fail first when conditions degrade.

Latency
Round-Trip Response Time
The time in milliseconds for a packet to travel from your device to a remote endpoint and back. Under 80ms is excellent for business use. Over 150ms causes noticeable lag in VoIP and video calls. Over 300ms renders real-time communications unusable.
Critical — VoIP & RDP threshold
Jitter
Latency Variation Between Packets
Even if average latency is low, high jitter means packets arrive unevenly — causing choppy audio, video freezing, and degraded call quality. Under 10ms is ideal. Over 30ms causes significant VoIP issues. Jitter is often the hidden cause of "the calls sound bad" complaints.
Critical — Root cause of call quality issues
Packet Loss
Percentage of Packets That Never Arrive
Any non-zero packet loss degrades TCP performance and breaks real-time protocols. Under 0.5% is acceptable. 1% is noticeable on VoIP. Over 5% is critical — indicating hardware failure, ISP issues, or severe congestion. Files upload and download slowly. Calls drop.
Critical — Indicates hardware or ISP failure
DNS
Domain Name Resolution Speed
Every website, cloud app, and Microsoft 365 service lookup begins with DNS. Slow DNS adds latency to every single connection your employees make. Under 30ms is excellent. Over 100ms is noticeable. Incorrect or slow DNS resolvers are a commonly overlooked cause of sluggish cloud app performance.
High — Affects every cloud application
Multi‑EP
Six-Endpoint Geographic Analysis
Testing against a single server gives incomplete results. The analyzer probes Cloudflare, Google DNS, AWS East, Azure CDN, OpenDNS, and Securafy simultaneously — isolating whether issues are ISP-wide, destination-specific, or localized to your on-premise network.
Diagnostic — Isolates ISP vs. local issues
Score
Weighted Stability Grade (A+ to F)
All four metrics are combined into a 0–100 score with a letter grade. Each use case — VoIP, M365, video conferencing, RDP, VPN — gets its own pass/fail based on the thresholds required for that application. No guesswork. Clear, actionable results.

Application Requirements

What Your Apps Actually Need

Different business applications have different network requirements. Here's what each one needs — and what your test results mean for day-to-day operations.

📞
VoIP / Business Phone
VoIP is the most demanding common business application. Choppy audio, dropped calls, and one-way audio are all symptoms of network instability — not phone system problems. Fix the network, not the phones.
Requires: <100ms latency · <20ms jitter · <1% loss
🎥
Video Conferencing
Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet can compensate for moderate instability with adaptive codecs — but sustained jitter or packet loss causes freezing, pixelation, and audio dropouts that make meetings unusable.
Requires: <150ms latency · <30ms jitter · <2% loss
☁️
Microsoft 365 / Cloud Apps
M365 is resilient to moderate latency but slow DNS and packet loss cause sluggish Outlook, slow SharePoint file loading, and OneDrive sync failures. Securafy optimizes network paths for M365 tenants.
Requires: <200ms latency · <30ms DNS · <3% loss
🖥️
Remote Desktop / RDP / VDI
Remote desktop protocols are extremely sensitive to latency. Over 80ms causes noticeable lag in keystrokes and mouse movements. Packet loss causes screen corruption. RDP over poor connections is a productivity killer.
Requires: <80ms latency · <10ms jitter · <1% loss
🔒
VPN / Zero Trust / SASE
VPN overhead adds 10–30ms of latency to every connection. High baseline latency plus VPN overhead compounds into serious performance issues. SASE architectures are designed to minimize this — Securafy can assess the right approach.
Requires: <120ms latency · <2% loss
💾
Cloud Backup / File Sync
Backup and sync applications tolerate higher latency but are severely impacted by packet loss, which forces TCP retransmissions and dramatically reduces throughput. 5% packet loss can cut backup speeds by 80% or more.
Requires: <5% loss · stable DNS resolution
